Submission Guidelines

What we want

TiconderogaOnline is after the best stories being written in SF, Fantasy, Horror and Dark Fiction. We accept submissions of original short stories, between 1,500 and 5,000 words.

We are presently buying and publishing 12–15 stories per year. We do not believe that this gives us room to publish second-rate fiction. We want your best.

We tend to prefer unusual, bizarre, gonzo stories, distinctive styles; SF in the tradition of Howard Waldrop, Jack Womack, Tom Reamy and Alfred Bester. We want stories that make us as excited as the first time we read "San Diego Lightfoot Sue" or "Night Of The Cooters". Send us the stuff that even you think, "What the hell kind of monster have I created here?"

Most importantly, we want excellent fiction.

Please take the time to peruse our current issue and back issues to see an idea of what we're looking for.

What we don't want

Reprints, multiple submissions, simultaneous submissions.
No poetry.
Non-fiction. All our non-fiction is commissioned.
Non-solicited reviews. If you would like to review for us, send samples of your work to reviews@ticonderogaonline.com
Generic fantasy. We aim to push the boundaries of speculation and speculative fiction, not King Arthur's nor J.R.R. Tolkien's horse.

How can I submit?

Australian residents

Send submissions as an attached .rtf to submissions@ticonderogaonline.com. Use the words "Submission" in the subject line (or else your submission may be inadvertently mistaken for spam or a virus).

Overseas submissions

TiconderogaOnline aims to publish a maximum of three stories per year written by non-Australian residents. Please note that we have a strict reading period for these submissions, from 1-31 January each year. Stories submitted outside of this period will not be read. TiconderogaOnline has a small but dedicated editorial panel and are unable to cope with a large influx of submissions over a longer period.

Send submissions as an attached .rtf to submissions@ticonderogaonline.com. Use the words "International Submission" in the subject line (or else your submission may be inadvertently mistaken for spam or a virus).

Manuscript format

Please follow standard submission format: 12 point Courier New, double spaced, with your name, address, email address, and word count at the top left corner of the first page. Page numbers and informative header/footer. Put the words "The End" or "Ends" at the end of your story: you'd be amazed how many people don't do this, and how many stories look like they've been left hanging in mid-air if you don't.

If you haven't received a confirmation of receipt of your submission within one week please send follow-up. Unfortunately our email is not immune from spammers, and honest mistakes do happen.
